Message Recap
Today marked the final message in our Heaven series. Willow's Senior Pastor Dave Dummit and Willow Español Pastor Fabian Garza taught together in both English and Spanish. They began by reminding us how important it is to think about Heaven and learn about it because not only does it affect our hope for the next life when we die, but it also impacts how we live our lives today.
There are many different views of how to get into Heaven. Today, Pastor Fabian and Pastor Dave addressed three of these views:
The Curve: on one end of the curve are people we think are really, really good. Like Mother Theresa. On the other end are people we think are really, really bad, like Hitler. And the rest of us are somewhere in the middle. But the Bible tells us in Romans 3:10 that there is no one righteous. Compared to God, none of us are good.
The Scales: some of us think we'll be judged on whether the good of our lives outweighs the bad. In this view, all "good" people go to Heaven. The problem with this view is, who decides what is good?
The Cross: The curve and the scales simply do not work. But the Cross is the gift God gave us for eternal life in Jesus (Romans 6:23). When we get to Heaven, there will not be any questions about how good we are. Instead, we will be asked, who is paying the debt for your sin? When we choose to follow Jesus, we can confidently answer, "I took Jesus up on His offer." If we view eternity by the cross, we'll live our life by the cross, and we'll live like Jesus.
