Message Recap
Today, we concluded our series "You're Not Alone" by looking at what it means to fit in. Megan Marshman challenged us with the statement, "You may not feel like you fit in. Good! You are not meant to fit in, but you are meant to belong."
Romans 12:4-5 says, "For just as each of us has one body with many members, and these members do not all have the same function, so in Christ we, though many, form one body, and each member belongs to all the others."
Megan taught that God forms us and fills us to function.
We are formed by God for community. Genesis 1:26 says, "Then God said, 'Let us make mankind in ourimage...'" (emphasis added). We are made for community because we are made in the image of the triune God—Father, Son and Holy Spirit.
We are filled with life by God so that we can function. The order is important for us to remember because we are formed and then filled to function; we do not function to then be filled. In this proper order, we will return to Jesus and not other things to fill us.
We function as a body when we contribute our gifts to the community. We do not all have the same function, which is a good thing! We belong to each other and need one another to function in our unique roles as one body.
Finally, Megan encouraged us to be a church that knows we are formed by God, filled with His life, to function as His body on earth.
