Message Recap
*In addition to Dave Dummitt’s recorded message, each campus pastor shared a unique message. This recap is a general summary; feel free to tailor your group’s recap and discussion to your campus.
As we honor the many volunteers who love God, love people, and change the world through serving, we remember that Jesus has not called us not to “wear the robe” but to “bear the towel.” He modeled how to humbly and freely serve everyone. When we volunteer, we are actually serving God and joining in His mission.
Discussion Questions
- Read John 13:3–5 and Mark 10:45. Why is it so hard to serve certain people? What helps you push through your emotions and serve them anyway?
- Towel bearers don’t have to be in the limelight; they are content to serve in the background. Do you know anyone who serves with this attitude?
- Read 1 Corinthians 12:12. How have you seen this verse lived out?
- Read Ephesians 2:10 and 1 Peter 4:10–11. Are you aware of the unique gifts, talents, or passions God has given you? What tools helped you learn more about how God wired you?
- Have you ever been part of a serving team that grew to love each other like a family? Share one of your favorite memories of volunteering.
- Has your group ever volunteered together? Brainstorm ways you can collaborate on a serving project this summer.
-
Live it Out
- Reread today’s Bible passages. Which one stands out to you? How might God be calling you to respond to His Word this week?
- If you already serve at Willow, thank you! Would you like to learn more about joining a Willow serving team or volunteering with your group? You can explore the many opportunities available at your campus on our digital Serve Finder.
- Is there another way God is calling you to live out the message this week?
