Message Recap
Jesus and His disciples encountered a storm as they sailed across the Sea of Galilee. The disciples became frightened, but Jesus was in control the entire time. He spoke, and the storm subsided.
We may try to avoid storms in our lives, but they will come, and they can strengthen our faith and character. We prepare for these tough times when we practice spiritual disciplines such as Bible engagement, worship, community, service, and generosity. Eventually, Jesus turns those storms into stories of His power, provision, and love.
Discussion Questions
- Do you know someone who expertly handles unexpected situations? What behaviors and characteristics do they exhibit in these stressful times?
- Read Luke 8:22–25 and John 16:33. Pastor Dave taught that storms will come, even with Jesus in the boat. Sometimes, people believe that life will run smoothly once we believe in Jesus. Why do you think that is?
- What are some practical ways we can prepare for the storms of life?
- Read Psalm 18:30. Have you ever shared your fears with God during a difficult time? How did He respond?
- Read James 1:2. Encourage each other by sharing stories of how God met you with His power, provision, and love during a particularly difficult time.
- Pastor Dave told a story about praying in a challenging situation that seemed impossible to overcome. Share a current storm you’re facing, then take time to support each other in prayer.
Live it Out
- Talk to God about a current storm you’re facing. Then, read all of Psalm 18. How is God speaking to you through His Word?
- Who can you encourage this week by sharing a story of Jesus calming a storm in your life?
- Pastor Dave shared that the main action step from the Read All About It series is to spend more time in the Bible. Willow’s Adult Engagement Team created two resources to support you in this goal.
- Subscribe to our Daily Devotionals to read reflections and next step ideas from the book of Luke written by staff and volunteers across Willow. These devotionals also include the 21 Days of Prayer content.
- You can also download our reflection journal. Using the Gospel of Luke as the primary resource, each chapter includes reflection questions; a dedicated space to capture notes, drawings, thoughts, and prayers; and ways to live out your learning.
- Is there another way God is calling you to live out the message this week?
