Power can change you…sometimes for the worse, but Jesus demonstrated a different style of leadership: Servant leadership. This requires putting the needs of others ahead of your own and sacrificing your desires for the good of others. In 1 Kings 19,  we find Elisha model the life of a servant leader. What would it look like if more people led like this? We think the world would change!

 

Discussion Questions

What are the key characteristics of servant leadership, and how do they differ from traditional leadership styles focused on power and authority?

 

How does Elisha’s commitment to serving Elijah and his community reflect the principles of servant leadership? What specific actions demonstrate his dedication to this approach?

 

In 1 Kings 19, Elisha uses his resources to care for his community before following Elijah. What does this reveal about the relationship between service and leadership?

 

What are some challenges leaders might face when adopting a servant leadership style? How can these challenges be overcome?

 

What are the benefits of servant leadership for the leader themselves, as well as for those they lead? How can these benefits be measured or observed?

 

Imagine a world where servant leadership is the dominant style. How might this change interpersonal relationships, community dynamics, and organizational cultures?
