One of the most essential elements in any relationship is communication. Prayer is just that: engaging God in a conversation, sharing our hearts with Him, and listening to His voice, both individually and in community. You can discover simple ways to can pray privately, regularly, and genuinely.
Discussion Questions
What role does prayer play in your relationship with God, and how has it evolved over time?
How do you feel when you pray? Do those feelings change depending on the type of prayer (e.g., confession, gratitude, supplication)?
Share about a time when you really experienced God through prayer. What did you learn about him?
Why do you think God desires communication from us, even though He already knows our hearts?
What barriers do you experience in regularly communicating with God? Discuss as a group some ways those barriers might be overcome?
Which do you find easier to practice–speaking to God or listening for his guidance and voice in your life?
Live it out
Have each group member identify one prayer practice they want to focus on this week. Do you want to listen more? Spend more time in solitude? Speak your gratitude to God throughout the day? Next week check in with each other about how that experience was for each person.
