Message Recap

Revelation is the end of the story we find ourselves in today, but we must dig into the context and style it was written in. By exploring this often feared (or ignored) book of the Bible, we can learn that it is actually a message of hope and a promise of Jesus’ ultimate victory.

Discussion Questions

  1. In Revelation 1:17-18, why does John react with fear upon seeing Jesus and how does Jesus respond to him?
  2. Reflecting on Revelation 19:16, why are the titles "King of kings and Lord of lords" used to describe Jesus?
  3. How do these passages portray Jesus differently (as High Priest, Lamb, and Conquering King) and what does each portrayal reveal about his role in salvation history?
  4. How does the imagery of Jesus in Revelation 19 contrast with typical depictions of Jesus in the Gospels?
  5. How does understanding the genre of apocalyptic literature help interpret the vivid imagery and symbolism in these passages?
  6. Considering the historical context of John's exile and the persecution of early Christians, how would the message of Revelation have provided hope and encouragement to its original audience?

Live it out

Reread Revelation 1 through the lens of receiving HOPE for your current context and write a letter to God about the hope that you find in reading his word.
